Indian demand for high-quality dairy starters is climbing with consumer awareness. Supply has not followed, because very few manufacturers of these cultures exist in the country at all.
That gap is the reason ABsource was founded. A technological platform for dairy starter cultures, built on advanced biotechnological processes, serving the regional differences that make Indian dairy what it is — and doing it from a supply chain that starts in Pune.
The story
From 2014 to a working range.
ABsource Biologics was founded in Pune in 2014 by Dr. Mukesh Vinze and Mr. Jagannath Sonavane — a scientist and a biotechnologist.
In 2016 the first commercial Direct Vat Set range reached production, making ABsource the first Indian manufacturer of DVS dairy starter cultures. Before that, essentially every Indian dairy plant bought its starters as imports: priced in foreign currency, weeks of lead time, and no way to tune a blend for mishti doi or shrikhand.
The range now runs to fifteen product lines (DVS starter cultures, 200+ cultures), dairy ingredients and taste makers, supplied to 300+ customers from a clean-room facility with an in-process QC lab.

- 2025
India's national RUC plant opens at Anand
A Ready-to-Use Culture manufacturing plant is inaugurated at Anand, and indigenous starter culture supply becomes national policy. Ready-to-Use Culture and Direct Vat Set describe the same category — the country now agrees India should make its own cultures. We have been manufacturing them here since 2016.
